No ammount of "But...but...RAIMI IS GOD" can save this shitfest from being called out as one of the stupidest comic movies out there. Sure, it's not Batman & Robin bad, but dammit if it didn't try...
I don't think Raimi was trying to create a good movie with this one. I think he was completely aware of all of the ridiculous situations and plot foibles and kept them in the movie to make a point. Several parts in the movie led me to believe that this was Raimi's way of stating "I think comic books are ridiculous! But look at all the pretty colors! What fun we're having!" Raimi is not a stupid man and I really can't bring myself to believe that he'd unknowingly include such crap into one of his flicks. He was fully conscious of everything he put into this movie. Taking that into consideration while watching it can give you a whole new perspective on how many layers this movie works on. It's more of a commentary on society and pop culture (especially pop culture of our parent's generation). I do agree that it was over the top and ridiculous, but Raimi was making a point and when I can be in a place to appreciate that point this movie makes a lot more sense and is much more consistent with what I'd expect from a guy like Raimi.

That's beautiful, Travis. I think this is the first time one of your strips ever made me laugh. With you, not at you.
